Small update. I've added a couple of photo's of old Rose T-Shirts to the Gallery. Check them out here.

14/09/08

Following up the news first published on the Rose MySpace site, Glenn Shultz has been in touch to let me know his new band with Mark Thompson is now up and running. The Pact also have a MySpace site here: http://www.myspace.com/thepact2008 where you can checkout 4 songs, photo's and a video:

The Pact Live at the Blues Bar

15/08/08

I've added the details of 8 new compilation album apperances by The Rose, plus photo's of three promotional posters for the Too Many Castles In The Sky, Velveteen and Always There singles.

30/06/08

OK, lots to update you on. On the content side I have improved the quality on a couple of photo's. You will see the Galleries now have a nice slick interface using some photo widgets. I have new gigs in the Gigography, and another boot available for trading. I've added two new compliations featuring the Rose, and I have also uploaded the press release and press photo from the press kit that came with the limited version of "A Peace Inside" EP.

I've also setup a page for The Rose on Facebook so you can now become "a fan". The MySpace page coninues to generate lots of interest with over 7,400 hits and nearly 400 "friends". The Rose YouTube channel has now delivered over 10,200 plays of the Rose video clips hosted there.

On the technical side I have moved the whole site to a professional hosting service, so if you still have the old Geocities address in your bookmarks please update it to point at www.roseofavalanche.com. The new host will ensure the site is much faster to load and I now have plenty of space to grow the site (if you send me stuff!!). Finally I've ditched the whole frame based design in favour of flat pages which should ensure the site looks a little better on screen.

04/06/08

To round off the recent frenzy of activity I've uploaded a clip of The Rose's only known TV performance on to YouTube - click here to watch it. Filmed in 1987 promoting the Always There single, I believe it was shot for local TV Broadcast (Yorkshire TV?). The quality is not great due to its age and the number of conversions it's been through, however it's very interesting for its historical value, and gives a rare opportunity to see the band in action. I've also added a few more gigs to the 1986 Gigography, covering a tour the Rose completed supporting Balaam and the Angel. These dates have been pieced together from clues in various vintage press cuttings, so if anyone can confirm them I would be grateful. Have a great summer!

24/05/08

As promised I've completed Part 2 of the site re-write, completely revising the Biography. I've also traced a Melody Maker feature from 1987 including quotes from Phil Morris, and finally I have added a scan of a 1990 gig ticket, signed by all the band.

18/05/08

I've just completed and uploaded part 1 of the most comprehensive rewrite of the site's original material in 12 years! I've totally re-written the Discography, which is now 100% accurate, covering every release (authorised or not!) by the band. I've also written extensive notes for all of the major releases and improved and / or added many more cover art scans to each entry. Finally I've also updated the "Where Are They Now" section, prompted by the recent revelation of Phil being spotted at the Red Lorry Yellow Lorry gig in Leeds in May.

02/05/08

I've completly revamped the Gigography, now proving more detail than ever on the Rose gigs in the archive. I have currently got 184 gigs listed, but there are loads of gaps - if any one has any more info please get in touch.

19/04/08

A few updates. I recently created a Rose Jukebox on both this website and the MySpace page so you lucky people can now listen to a variety of Rose tracks free of charge.

Three Rose Fanzine interviews have come in from Matthew Rees and are now online for your viewing pleasure - thanks Matthew - see the Cuttings or Press Gallery

Last but not least Rich Head has been dusting down the memory banks and has supplied a selection of November '89 dates for the Gigography, the first gigs featuring Darren Horner on bass.

Thanks guys, keep the material coming in!

15/03/08

Steve Myers has come through with some further bits and pieces Rose fans...4 new gigs in the shop for sale / trading. Highlights include a rare public outing of "Height Of The Clouds" from 1987,  two gigs from 1988, fixing the lack of recorded performances from that year, and a late 1991 show in Germany with a track never recorded in the Studio - "Helter Skelter" Also updates to the gigography, bootleg list, and some scans of a few new Rose posters and a ticket - see Galley 3

Finally I have uploaded Phil delivering a rant to the audience in Northampton in 1987 where he outlines the history of the band and the origins of the name. For me this sums up all that is simultaneously great and cringe worthy about the band in one glorious 3 minute clip!

03/02/08

Sherlock Holmes has nothing on me I tell ya! Always on the look out for material to add to the site, I stumbled across four press releases from the Rose's days at Fire records. Thanks to the very nice Steve @ LowDownKids.com I can now share them with the rest of you...check out Gallery 4 for the new material. If you would like to get your paws on the originals, along with the corresponding vinyl, pop over and see Steve at www.lowdownkids.com.

05/01/08

Thanks to some trading with Steve, Luca, and Jonathan, the shop has a few new items in there now including four new gigs from 1985, one from 1986, two from 1987 and one from 1989, plus recordings of the Rose's BBC Radio 1 sessions.

26/12/07

Merry Christmas Rose fans, and early best wishes for 2008. To round off the year I have a couple of new live photo's sent in by Jonathan Pullen at the After Dark Club in Reading on 11th March 1989. See here.

We close out the year with the Rose MySpace site notching up over 3,400 visits, 4,100 plays of the various Rose tracks, and 246 "friends" signed up. Not bad in less than 11 months.

Finally at the recent March Violets reunion gig in Leeds I had the chance to chat with ex Rose drummer Andy Porter, and here is a quick snap of the two of us in deep and meaningful conversation! Andy is in the Camouflage jacket.

24/11/07

I saved up a few things at once. Firstly, this website got it's first print promotion and acknowledgement. If you check out the December 2007 issue of Record Collector magazine there is a Goth collectables article, including the Peace Inside E.P. from the mighty Rose!.

Secondly, you may have seen from the Myspace site that The Rose of Avalanche were approached to play one of  the upcoming Mission shows in London, which will be their last.

Unfortunately not enough ex Rose members were up for a reunion, so tantilising though the prospect would have been to see the Rose boys again, I guess some things are just not meant to be!

More information on the Mission dates can be found here:

ww.myspace.com/themissionuk

Finally, thanks to a tip off from Jonathan Pullen, I've added a new section detailing known Rose bootlegs - check it out and let me know if you have anything I've missed...

As always, drop me a line or post in the forums...If you are going to the Mission or March Violets gigs, I'll see you there...

28/09/07

A few minor updates. I've added a rare picture of "Diversion" the band formed by ex members of the Rose following the final split to the Biography. I've also made some minor updates to the Gigography.

20/04/07

Andy Porter has come through for you Rose fans again! Andy has found a collection of photo's of the guys behind the scenes that made The Rose possible. There is now a new photo Gallery showcasing the management and road crew of the Rose, plus a new photo of Darren Horner in Gallery 1.

07/04/07

Made a few minor updates. I've uploaded alternative cover art to the Too Many Castles In The Sky and Velveteen single pages. The Rose MySpace site is continuing to grow, reaching 907 views, 98 registered friends and 1,353 plays of the 4 Rose tracks hosted on the page.

10/03/07

Thanks to information supplied by Stephen Ryan, I've added another unofficial release in the Discography. See here.

27/01/07

I've uploaded two new video clips taken from the Live in Switzerland DVD available in the shop. The songs are Too Many Castles In The Sky and King of Fools. Click here to view them. The Rose MySpace site is picking up, with 93 visits and 18 friends in 12 days.

14/01/07

Happy New Year! In an effort to spread the Rose name I've finally got around to setting up a MySpace site for the Rose to complement roseofavalanche.com. Drop in to www.myspace.com/roseofavalanche and check it out.

26/10/06

I've uploaded the two Town & Country video clips to YouTube so the rest of the world can experience the glory of the Rose in action!! I've also added the YouTube links into the Multimedia section to save you downloading the video files.

News of a new Goth Rock box set featuring the one and only Rose of Avalanche!:

Long before its black velvet and pale skin fashions crept into American malls, Goth music represented an underground movement led by fans who favored songs that tapped into the antisocial energy of punk but celebrated dark introspection, tempestuous atmospherics and visual panache.  Rhino brings together influential bands that rarely or never participate in

Gothic music compilations to create a fascinating cross-section of all matters pertaining to Goth with A Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box. This four-disc boxed set-three CDs and one DVD-will be available September 19.

In support of the release, MTV2 will be airing a special episode of Subterranean on September 17th that will take a look at the history of Goth and play videos from new artists like The Editors and AFI to classic videos from the artists featured on the box set.

With 53 songs and 12 videos originally released between 1978 and 1998, this boxed set provides a uniquely comprehensive listen into the largest underground scene in the world. Or as the collection's producer, Liz Goodman, explains in the extensive liner notes, the box showcases "the essential hit bands from a scene that arguably never had hits."

So I know I keep crying wolf that I can't possibly have anything left to add to the site. Well thanks to the modern miracle that is eBay I have got my paws on all the major Rose press coverage from Sounds magazine between 1985 - 1987. I have scanned and transcribed all the interviews into various places, creating a new Gallery in the process. I've also updated the 1988 and 1990 Gigography (Thanks Richard for the email). So there you go, you lot are spoilt! And I've also filled up all my web server space, but keep any other material coming....

28/06/06

Hot on the heels of the last update, Andy Porter has been in touch and kindly supplied some Rose memorabilia. I have added scan of various back stage passes, a tour poster, and German magazine feature all to be found in Gallery 3, plus supplied a more up to date picture in the Ex Members section. Cheers Andy!

26/06/06

I rediscovered my clippings file and have uploaded two images from the dusty archives. One is the press release issued to launch the String 'A' Beads album, the second is a scan of the merchandise on offer from 1990! I think that pretty much exhausts my supply of Rose stuff, so if any one has anything else please send it over and I'll stick it up...The images are in Gallery 3

23/03/06

Yet more Rose fans! I've tided up some of the photo's on the site and added two new full length video clips for you to download and enjoy. Check them out here

19/03/06

Kind thanks to Steve Daffern for sending in a scan from an old Rose interview with UK music paper "Sounds" from November 1985. You can view the scan and read the transcript here

I've also added a Links page to promote other Leeds based bands active at around the time of the Rose.
